LONG ISLAND, NY — A winter weather advisory has been issued for Sunday, with snow expected throughout the area, the National Weather Service said.

According to the NWS, the winter weather advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in Suffolk County, and from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Nassau County.

Temperatures Saturday night are expected to dip into the lower 30s and, and toward morning, drop below freezing, with highs in the upper 20s, John Murray, meteorologist with the NWS office in Upton, said.

On Sunday about 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected, with Nassau County and western Suffolk County receiving the higher end of those totals, Murray said.

Highs on Sunday will be in the mid-to-high 30s, with lows Sunday night in the 20s. On Monday, temperatures will remain in the mid-30s, plunging into the teens Monday night, he said.

Motorists should expect slippery road conditions, the NWS said.

"Slow down and use caution while traveling. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions," the NWS said.
