PATCHOGUE, NY — The Patchogue Polar Plunge at Sandspit Marina has been postponed due to the freezing weather that the region has been experiencing, organizers announced in an email on Wednesday.
It has been rescheduled from Sunday to March 1.
"The health and well-being of our participants, volunteers, and community remain our highest priority," the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce's non-profit committee wrote. "After carefully reviewing the upcoming weather forecast, we have decided — out of an abundance of caution — to postpone the Patchogue Plunge."
The decision was made "to ensure the safety of all participants, volunteers, first responders, and spectators while still allowing us to deliver the fun, impactful event you’ve come to expect," they explained.
Existing registrations will automatically roll over.
"We will continue to share updates as we get closer, and appreciate your understanding and continued enthusiasm," they concluded.
This year's plunge will benefit the area's local non-profit organizations.
The organizations include the Patchogue Medford YMCA, Patchogue Medford Youth and Community Services, Patchogue Medford Library, and Fit for Life. Also included are Long Island Equality, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and Rise Life Services.
The event will include music provided by a deejay.
It will begin with bagels and coffee at 8:30 a.m.
