PLAINVIEW, NY — An elderly woman perished in a blaze inside a home in Plainview early Saturday morning, Nassau police said.

Officers were dispatched to the fire at the Sutton Drive home just before 2:30 a.m., and when they got there, it was fully engulfed in flames, according to police.

Firefighters from the Plainview Fire Department, with the help of several other fire departments, responded to extinguish the flames, police said, adding that the police department's Arson Squad and Nassau County Fire Marshal's office also responded to the scene.

The woman, 67, was "discovered" inside the home and pronounced dead, police said.

The Homicide Squad, which probes all unattended deaths, is conducting an ongoing investigation.
