YAPHANK, NY — Twenty-five inmates in an isolated section of the Yaphank Jail were moved to temporary housing units over the weekend, as workers repaired a heating problem — the second at the facility in a week, the Suffolk County Sheriff's office said Monday.

Two small housing units, containing 10 women and 15 men, were affected, and they were all moved to other housing units while the sheriff's office worked to fix the issue, an office spokeswoman told Patch.

The spokeswoman could not be sure if the problem had been fixed as of Monday morning.

The nature of the issue was not immediately known.

There was another heating issue in the visiting area, which is in a separate area of the jail, on Jan. 30, but that has since been fixed, the spokeswoman said.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
